Breech Homebirth 1
I was 18 and it was my first pregnancy. The baby had presenting breech all pregnancy and I was fully prepared to have her vaginally. She was born at home - in the same home that I was born in.
I woke up at 3:07am to a nice firm "TWANG" in my cervix followed by the waters breaking. I was living at home and I quickly woke my mother who had a lot more experience in birthing than I had. She called the midwife and then followed me around the house with a video camera for about an hour. Midwife got there around 4:30 I believe. I went from bed to bath for around two or three hours. Bub was sitting on her foot so her knee was sticking into my back which caused the majority of the pain.
At around 12 I measured 9cm. I only had my mother and two midwives present. I spent most of my time standing or sitting on a birthing stool. I was sitting on the birth stool and at around 3pm I started pushing out five little toes that would twitch with each contraction. With a good and painful push her leg and bum presented.

About 5 more minutes and both her arms were out. At this stage all I could see was my baby dangling by her head (note everyone else there could see the sex but I didn't want to know). It took around 10 minutes for the head to be born and it needed some assistance from the midwife. I started to freak out a little because I could see the cord around her neck and you don't normally see babies hanging by their neck. The midwife was stretching my perineum and had to insert her fingers around baby’s mouth as she was gasping because she would come back up after a contraction was finished. |
A few squeals and screams of "I can't do it" and my little angel was born at 3:21pm. I sat down and she was put in my arms. She started crying straight away but only for a minute then she just sat there looking around with her deep black eyes. I had no tears and very little bleeding. I gave birth to the placenta about 30 mins to an hour later simply by putting my finger in my mouth and blowing. We shared a bath and then within hours the house was filled with friends and relatives.
